Adoption Assistance

Eligible employees who adopt a child receive a lump sum payment of up to $5,000 to help with adoption expenses, including:

  • Agency adoption fees
  • Court costs
  • Attorney fees
  • Round-trip transportation to bring the child home

If you’re classified to work 30 hours per week or more, you’re eligible for adoption assistance. This benefit provides reimbursement for adoption-related expenses up to $3,000 per child with a lifetime benefit of $6,000 per family.

Gestational Surrogacy Program

Gestational surrogacy is an arrangement in which a person carries and delivers a baby for another person or couple. The person who carries the baby is the gestational surrogate or gestational carrier.

Our Gestational Surrogacy Program reimburses gestational surrogacy parents up to $15,000 for eligible expenses associated with the gestational surrogacy. The program is open to benefits-eligible employees.

Family and Caregiving Programs

Update to family care support 2025: Starting Jan. 1, 2025, we’re transitioning our backup care program from Care@Work to Bright Horizons to improve your access to the care you need. You can continue to schedule backup care through Care@Work and use your premium Care.com membership through Dec. 31, 2024. Learn more about this change and the Bright Horizons program .

Benefits-eligible staff receive a free premium membership to the Care.com portal, where you can explore provider profiles, do background checks and a Safety Center to get guidance on assessing providers.

Subsidized Backup Child and Adult Care
Need emergency back-up care for child or adult day care? Through Care@Work, you can access subsidized, vetted care for work-related situations up to 10 days per fiscal year (Jan 1 – Dec 31). Take advantage of this benefit in two easy steps:

Step 1: Enroll on Hopkins’ Care.com portal
Step 2: Search for backup care or call 855-781-1303

Note: If you use more than $5,000 in backup care and/or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account benefits for any 12-month period, the excess will be applied to your wages, as required by the IRS.

Lactation Support Program

Pregnancy, childbirth, adoption, surrogacy, and loss are all major life transitions. Continuing to chest/breastfeed, or exclusively pump, requires extra planning and support. Johns Hopkins’ Lactation Support Program helps make the transition back to work or study easier.

View the list of registered rooms across the All Children’s campuses . Several are equipped with hospital-grade Medela Symphony pumps, and pump kits can be purchased in the gif shop for a discounted price.

Complete these steps to participate in the Lactation Support Program:

  1. Request lactation accommodations .
  2. Register to use a lactation room . After you register, you’ll get a confirmation email containing room amenity and access information.
